Taita-Taveta County Health Executive John Mwangeka informed that the driver was first taken to the Voi County Referral Hospital and was later transferred to Mwatate Hospital isolation unit.

The driver is alleged to have been travelling in a track from Uganda before he was taken to hospital.

"Medical personnel are taking blood samples from the victim. The samples will be taken to the Kemri laboratories in Nairobi for analysis,” Mwangeka stated.

The incident came days after a male truck driver tested positive for covid-19 in Uganda on Tuesday, April 14.

According to a press statement signed by Director General of Health Services, Henry Mwebesa, the 27-year-old is said to have been among the 372 truck drivers who had been tested on Tuesday for the virus.

So far, Kenya has 262 confirmed covid-19 cases.

This is after Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on Saturday, April 18, announced that 16 more individuals had tested positive for the virus.

Further, Mutahi confirmed the death of one more person making the total number of those who had succumbed to the disease at 12.

At the same time, he announced that seven more people had been discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 60.
