The Ministry of Health on Monday, June 29, confirmed 120 new cases of Covid-19 in the country, bringing total cases recorded so far to 6,190.
The new cases were recorded from 2,221 samples tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the total samples tested so far to 167,417.
All new cases except 5 are Kenyans. 84 of the 120 are male while 36 are female. The ages of the new cases range from 6 years old to 83 years old.
The cases from the counties include; Nairobi (67), Mombasa (17), Kajiado (9), Machakos (9), Kiambu (8), Uasin Gishu (4), Nakuru (2), Kilifi (2) and Narok (2).
Nairobi, has 67 new cases with 12 in Westlands, Dagoretti North and Langata 11 each, Kibra 6, Makadara and Starehe 4 each, Kamukunji 3, Embakasi Central, Embakasi East, Embakasi North, Embakasi South, Embakasi West and Mathare 2 each. Kasarani, Roysambu, Ruaraka, and Umoja, have 1 case each.
In Mombasa, the new cases are distributed across Mvita (6), Jomvu (5), Changamwe, Kisauni & Likoni, (2) cases each.
New cases in Kajiado were recorded in Loitokitok (6) and Kajiado North (3).In Machakos, new cases were recorded in Athi River (4), Machakos Town, (3) and Matungulu (2).
It was announced that 42 patients had been discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,013.
The death toll from Covid-19 in Kenya rose to 144 after 1 more fatality was confirmed.
Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rashid Aman who delivered the daily briefing noted that Nairobi and Mombasa had the highest infection rates in the country.
He also noted that Busia had become a hotspot with 407 cases, due to the effect of the truckers crossing the borders.
"These numbers suggest that it is only a matter of time before all the counties record a Covid-19 case. This should not make us panic," stating that it meant Kenyans should adhere to government guidelines and rules to prevent the spread of the virus.
The Ministry of Health also received donations of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) from the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) to be distributed to various counties.
The UNFPA noted that it had designated the Kenya Red Cross as their implementing partner in the initiative.
Aman also disclosed that Kenyan scientists had joined their global counterparts in undertaking research on various aspects of the pandemic.
"Here in Kenya our scientists and health professionals have also been working to enhance the knowledge of the virus in our local context," he stated.
He noted that on its part, the Ministry was scientifically tracking Covid-19 cases across the country to inform management and prevention protocols.
