The Ministry of Health is in the process of building capacity of more than 23,000 healthcare workers
including 8,000 health volunteers to administer Covid-19 vaccination.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the workers will also be engaged in logistics management, data capture, reporting and monitoring.
"The Ministry of Health has already engaged the Council of Governors, and both levels of government are working towards a smooth introduction of the vaccine, by ensuring all logistical arrangements are in place for the expected delivery of vaccines before the end of this month of February," said Kagwe during his daily briefings, where he also announced that 260 people have tested positive in the last 24 hours. This takes the total confirmed positive cases to 102,613.
Kagwe noted that 1,233,920 samples have been tested for the virus across the country. From the positive cases, 220 are Kenyans while 40 are foreign nationals.
141 are males while 119 are females. The youngest of the cases is a one-year-old baby while the oldest is aged 87 years old.
The Ministry of Health announced that 83 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus.
25 recoveries are from various health facilities across the country while 58 are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program. The total recoveries now stand at 84,873.
Fortunately, no patient has succumbed to Covid-19 in the last 25 hours. The cumulative fatalities in the country remain 1,794.
Currently, 341 patients are admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 1,391 are on Home Based Isolation and Care.
30 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 14 of whom are on ventilatory support and 16 on supplemental oxygen.
Another 8 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen with all of them on general wards.
