Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have been urged to arrest Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi.

Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichungwah and his Thika town counterpart Alice Ng’ang'a while speaking at a public gathering accused a section of senior county officials in Kiambu of embezzling funds.

In particular, Alice Ng'ang'a faulted the Kiambu governor, Wamatangi for orchestrating the illegalities within the county.

The accusations levelled against the governor were referenced to a report by the Auditor general highlighting several discrepancies in Kiambu county government's expenditure.

“I want the DCI and EACC to read the auditor general's report and investigate what happened,” Ichungwah noted.

"Whether you are an MCA or a governor, your days are numbered and in Kimabu County, the days have finally come. Let EACC, and DCI take the report, do investigations and arrest people," Ichung'wah added.

According to the two MPs, the Auditor General highlighted several cases of wastage and allegations of theft of county funds.

The duo further questioned why the detectives had not taken any action against the governor despite the availability of adequate evidence on Wamatangi's deeds.

In her recent report, Auditor General Nacy Gathungu alleged several discrepancies in the expenditure of county funds by the Kiambu county govt.

In the report on County Governments County Executive 2022/2023, the Auditor General revealed that the governor spent Ksh18 million to purchase 60,000 one-month-old chicks with the amount fully paid on April 20, 2023.

However, despite the payment, the report revealed that 37,500 of those chicks had not been delivered. The cost of the undelivered chicks was Ksh11.25 million.

The report also questioned over Ksh81.8 million spent to purchase certified seeds, breeding stock, and live animals among others.
