Detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested a suspected drug peddler in Mombasa during an intelligence-led operation.

According to the DCI, its officers had received information on the involvement of a Nigerian national in illicit trade.

Based on this information, a team of detectives was formed with the intention of raiding the foreigner's home in Kisauni Area.

DCI indicated that the officers observed some powdered polythene in the house, a move that warranted the officers to do an in-depth search of the house.

" A search conducted in the house saw the seizure of the white powdery crack discreetly wrapped in a polythene bag inside a drawer in his bedroom.

"Presumptive tests confirmed that the concealed powder was indeed cocaine, which was stashed alongside suspected repackaging materials. Also found were assorted SIM cards," read the DCI report in part.

The investigative agency revealed that the cocaine recovered weighed 200 grams with a street value of Ksh600,000.

Following the discovery, the detectives apprehended the suspect and booked him at the Port Police Station.

DCI added that its officers were still interrogating the foreigner before he was arraigned in court. The man is set to be charged with drug trafficking.

Meanwhile, the DCI added that it would continue with its operations in taking down drug dealers on the Coast.

Notably, the arrest of the Nigerian national comes days after seven suspected drug peddlers were arrested in Mombasa and Kilifi counties after being found in possession of cocaine and heroin.

"Approximately 928 grams of suspected cocaine estimated at over Sh3.7 million has been seized in an intelligence-led operation by Anti-narcotic Unit hawkshaws.

"The operation that was conducted in Lamu Central follows the heightened war against the sale, distribution and consumption of illicit drugs around the country," DCI stated then.
