The Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) has issued a cautionary advisory to drivers and road users traversing the Nairobi-Nakuru road, particularly at the Delamere stopover.
KENHA has alerted to an imminent risk posed by the Malewa River near the Delamere stopover, which is on the brink of overflowing, heightening the potential danger.
All motorists have been urged to exercise caution when approaching the area. Additionally, drivers have been advised against overtaking, as it may contribute to congestion in the vicinity.
"Should the river overflow, we will temporarily close the road until conditions improve for safe passage," read part of the statement.
Per the statement, KENHA emphasised that it was monitoring the situation and would provide prompt updates. Earlier, the authority had warned about several rivers across the country which are overflowing and hindering traffic.
"KENHA remains committed to ensuring seamless connectivity to facilitate safe passage and uninterrupted connectivity for the transportation of goods and services," the authority added.
Additionally, the authority issued a warning to motorists using the Emining-Marigat Road urging them to approach with caution while approaching the River Perkerra bridge.
On the said road, trees have fallen blocking the waterway under the bridge which has resulted in significant silt accumulation on the road surface.
Currently, a contractor from KENHA was at the site clearing the debris. All residents were urged to exercise patience and adhere to instructions provided by traffic marshals at the location.

As heavy rainfall persists across the country, many roads have become flooded, severely impacting transportation and disrupting daily activities. Major thoroughfares such as Thika Super Highway, Mombasa Road, and the Nairobi Expressway have been particularly affected.
Motorists are strongly advised to seek alternative routes until the situation is rectified.
