Several people are feared dead after a storey building collapsed in the Kanduyi area in Bungoma County.

According to reports, the mid-morning incident left about 5 dead with several others trapped inside the rubbles.

The building allegedly collapsed in its deconstruction by the County Government of Bungoma to pave the way for the expansion of Masinde Muliro stadium.

The building was partially demolished, leaving it in an unstable condition, a situation that posed a huge risk for residents.

Meanwhile, a rescue team was quickly dispatched to the scene even as residents watched the unfolding from afar.

In the widely circulated videos, the building could be spotted bent on one of its sides with the lower section completely destroyed.

Upon collapse, a section of area youth quickly rushed to the scene and began scavenging for metal scraps.

The incident came even as plans are underway for this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations will be held at Masinde Muliro Stadium.

Recently, Former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati's father accused the Bungoma County government of demolishing his Ksh500 million-storey building to pave the way for expansion of the Masinde Muliro stadium.

Wangamati's father stated that he acquired the land through legal means, demanding compensation from the county government.

“I did not obtain this land illegally. It was advertised. I applied and got it, I was running to a petrol station called Ajip petrol station,” ex-Governor, Wangamati's father claimed.

“If I’m a land grabber I could own huge pieces of land in Webuye because that is the town that I have operated in for a long time,” he added.
