A family from Thome, Nairobi County is living in fear after allegedly being ambushed by goons accompanied by police officers at night.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday, the family members narrated their ordeal lamenting numerous attempts to evict them from their land which they bought from a neighbour.

"Where have they been for the last 25 years? They want to forcefully acquire this land without the proper documentation," one of the sons told the press.

According to the family, one of the people behind the alleged land grab was colluding with police officers and detectives to have them thrown out of their property.

The family narrated reporting the various incidents to the Kasarani Police Station and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). However, based on their account, no help has been forthcoming from law enforcement.

Instead, the family accused police officers of abetting the alleged land grab and aiding the goons to destroy property.

Owing to this, the family has appealed to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to intervene and ensure this matter is resolved.

The family has been living in the Thome since 1996. In 2001, they got an offer to acquire more land next to their homestead after a neighbour approached them with a sale offer.

At this point, the man and his wife took out a loan to complete the purchase.

"We have all the documents in 2004 we took out a loan from a bank and we repaid the Ksh700,000," the family remarked.

This began the unending land tussle which has resulted in goons being sent to destroy the house and recently destroying the main gate.

On Friday, the family revealed that police officers accompanied a group of men including a surveyor to the disputed property and began measuring the plot.

"They were accompanied again by a police officer from Kasarani Police Station. They came here with items to fence the house claiming they are taking measurements without a court order," one of the sons lamented.

The family asked the relevant authorities to ascertain if the police officers in question were complicit in the alleged grab.
