Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS), Fred Matiang'i, was beside himself on Tuesday, November 2, as he issued a stern warning to land grabbers in Kiambu County.

Matiang'i, who was launching the construction of the Limuru Central Police headquarters, was shocked to find out that the project would cost more than was anticipated.

This is because the police had to part with Ksh13 million more to buy back the land in which the station was to be constructed from an alleged grabber. This prompted the CS to issue a firm warning to land grabbers in Limuru.

As a result, the establishment and implementation of several crucial projects in the area has been rendered impossible.

"I heard that there is someone who grabbed land belonging to the government, where we are supposed to launch projects.

"I wonder, can you really evict police officers? That you evict us, the government, from a piece of land?" he questioned.

A further enquiry into the matter revealed that several other pieces of land meant for the construction of police stations and administrative offices had also been grabbed by the crooks.

Interior Permanent Secretary, Karanja Kibicho, who accompanied his boss, also had a message for the individuals grabbing land belonging to the Ministry and, by extension, the government.

"You have heard that the land was grabbed. To you, the grabber, by the time we are leaving, you should have left," Kibicho ordered.

He stated that he and the CS would not shy away from apprehending the grabber on the spot, explaining that land grabbing, especially land belonging to the government, was unlawful.

Land grabbing has been a perennial problem in Kiambu County and the country in general. However, with the launch of the Ardhisasa platform, Lands CS, Farida Karoney, hopes to seal the loopholes that cartels use to infiltrate the system.
