Popular betting firm, Pepeta, has reaffirmed its deep commitment to Western Kenya's grassroots culture and sports scene after successfully hosting a traditional bullfighting tournament in Kakamega County.
The event, which took place on November 14 and 15, marked a significant expansion of Pepeta’s community engagement, building on the momentum generated by its inaugural Iwake Fest grassroots football tournament.
For two unforgettable days, Kakamega County was brought to a standstill as thousands of people gathered to celebrate the deep-rooted heritage.
The atmosphere was charged and vibrant as drums rolled, cheers rose, and people danced in the sunlight with over 10,000 supporters gathered to witness the spectacle.
Hundreds of fans arrived equipped with colourful placards, and traditional chants filled the air, keeping the tournament packed and exciting for the two days.
During the event, Pepeta spoke with bull owners who shared intimate stories of childhood memories, rituals passed down through generations, and the immense pride they carry for their bulls.
To Kakamega residents, bullfighting, in this region, is far more than just a sport. It is a story of heritage, bravery, friendly rivalry, and profound regional pride.
Pepeta’s decision to launch the bullfighting tournament was driven by the intention to celebrate and preserve a cultural tradition for future generations.
The betting firm also held the event to bring the community together in a shared, positive experience and give dedicated bull owners a platform to showcase their champions.
The tournament has now quickly turned out to be one of the most memorable cultural events of the year, proving to be a genuine "homecoming of culture."
It is worth noting that Pepeta was the first to offer betting odds on the event, adding an extra layer of excitement and engagement for the spectators.
Pepeta expressed its commitment to elevating the sport, emphasising the importance of involving all stakeholders to ensure that both bull owners and the spectators have fun and benefit from the initiative.
