1,300 Cartons of Illicit Brew Seized

Security officers in Nyandarua-West Sub-County have seized 1,300 cartons of second hand generation alcohol.

The consignment nabbed at Kasuku trading centre in Nyandarua, comes hot on the heels of a bold presidential directive for the crackdown on illicit brews in the country.

According to Kasuku location Chief Peter Kiragu the brew was found at a back-store in one of the buildings while several other consignments were found at a general shop in the front part of the building, Citizen Digital reports.

Some of the brands seized during the operation include, MoonWalker, Legend Brandy, Napoleon, Fighter, Santa King, Sauna, Super Gin, Konyagi and Dallas.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday after a meeting with MPs and Senators from the Central Kenya region, waged into the war against the sale of illicit brews, which he termed as a ‘business of death’.

President Kenyatta announced that the fight against counterfeit alcohol would begin in the Central Kenya region -which is the most affected- before being advanced to other regions across the country.

Members of Parliament from the region were given four days to rid the region of killer drinks.

The MPs are expected to report back to the President on their progress on Tuesday during a second meeting at State House.
