Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha on March 5 stated that the government was putting necessary measures in place to ensure education in Northern Kenya is revived.

Prof. Magoha indicated that a number of options had been put in place to ensure learning is normalized in the area after the exodus of non-local teachers who fled for their safety.

"Every child irrespective of where they come from shall be given equal rights and opportunities like the rest," stated the CS.

The CS stated that the government was ready to send back teachers in the volatile North Eastern region to facilitate learning.

"The government's position is that teachers are posted in Northeastern and that they are secured," he added.

Magoha who was in Mombasa during a teacher's retirement conference added that the government was not going to allow criminal elements to destabilize education in northern Kenyan.

The CS did not give a timeline on when this would be implemented but stated it should have been implemented as soon as 'yesterday'.

He urged the locals to ensure that they play their role in securing the lives of every student and teacher as they were overly important.

Many of the teachers had left the region with Sossion stating that the re-occurrence of terror attacks on the teachers was to be blamed on the poor staffing norms by the Teachers Service Commission.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) had maintained that it will not post teachers to North Eastern if the insecurity situation is not fixed.

It remains unclear whether teachers would be ready to go back to the region after the recent Jubaland drama by the Somali government.
