Njeri suffered two gunshot wounds on the head and two more on other parts of her body.

Mukundi had one gunshot wound on his head, with the entry wound on the right side and the exit on the left side, which completely damaged his brain.

The couple was found dead inside their Kirigiti, Kiambu home on August 3. A police report indicated that the 42-year-old man was a licensed gun holder.

One of the businessman's friends notified the police of his (Mukundi) failure to pick his calls prompting the law enforcement officers to visit the house.

“The officers from Kiambu Police Station proceeded to his house where the bedroom was found locked. The door was broken and the bodies of the said Jonathan Mukundi Gachunga, a Kikuyu male adult aged 42 years, and his wife namely Philomena Njeri, an adult aged around 30 years, were found lifeless (sic),” read the police report in part.

Friends and the couple's workers have since revealed that they had a rocky 10-year-union. The two are reported to have fallen out in the last three months only to try and mend fences on Monday, August 2.

Workers who knew the couple well say that Gachunga was a gentleman but was easily irritable. They added that Njeri had not stepped foot in the homestead since March 2021.

Mukundi is a tycoon who owns a number of properties and businesses.

This comes even as mental health cases resulting in murder and suicide among members of the public.

It is estimated that 483 individuals committed suicide in the three months to June 2021 raising concerns over mental health across the country.
