A Kiambu businessman and his wife were on Tuesday, August 3, found dead in their bedroom with the police suspecting a case of murder-suicide.

A preliminary police report suggested that Jonathan Mukundi Gachunga shot dead his wife Philomena Njeri before he turned the gun on himself. Investigations, however, are ongoing for a more conclusive report.

Friends and couple's workers have since revealed that the couple had a rocky 10-year-union.

The two are reported to have fallen out in the last three months only to try and mend fences on Monday, August 2.

Workers who knew the couple well say that Gachunga was a gentleman but was easily irritable. They added that Njeri had not stepped foot in the homestead since March 2021.

"She was last seen in this house in March when she hosted a lavish birthday party. Afterwards, she was not seen in the premises," a domestic worker told the Standard.

Gachunga is a tycoon who owns a number of properties and businesses.

Friends and family made a report to the police after they tried to reach them on phone to no success.

“The officers from Kiambu Police Station proceeded to his house where the bedroom was found locked.

"The door was broken and the bodies of the said Jonathan Mukundi Gachunga, a Kikuyu male adult aged 42 years, and his wife namely Philomena Njeri, adult aged around 30 years, were found lifeless (sic),” reads the police report in part.

Also found on the scene of crime was a mini Glock gun serial number BEZA475.

Their bodies were taken to Kenyatta University Referral Funeral Home awaiting a postmortem.
