8 Shot Dead Planning Attack in Nairobi

Police officers have reportedly shot dead eight suspected robbers in Nairobi's industrial area and recovered a cache of weapons.

The suspects are said to have been cornered by security agents as they were preparing to execute robbery in Mukuru slums on Tuesday night.

Confirming the incident, Makadara OCPD Nehemiah Langat said the gang was ambushed after officers received a tip-off describing it as a big win in the fight against city crime .

'This is the highest single incident to happen in the city in recent years,' Langat stated.

According to authorities, undercover officers were informed of a 12-man gang that was robbing area residents and rushed to the scene where they managed to kill three suspects with two others escaping with gun wounds.

While at the scene, the officers received alerts of a separate attack and on rushing there found other gangsters robbing civilians, leading to a shootout which left three goons dead.

Upon conducting a search around the area, two bodies of those who had escaped with gunshots were discovered after succumbing to injuries.

During the incident, five home-made guns, eight rounds of ammunition and other crude weapons including knives were recovered.

Security agencies have lately stepped up the fight against violent gangs in the city. Last week, three armed gangsters were shot dead outside Barclays bank in Westlands.

Two firearms were recovered from the felled thugs, while two of their accomplices including a lady escaped, with police assuring the public that they would hunt down the escapees.
