Siaya Governor James Orengo came under fire on Monday, October 17 after commissioning a high mast of light in Ugenya, Siaya County.

In the photos posted on social media on Sunday, October 15, Orengo is seen addressing a gathering, with a tall light mast illuminating the centre.

The governor, a former Senator, stated that the project will improve security and enable businesses to thrive within the market.

“Commissioning of High Mast light at Uhuru Center in Ugenya Constituency this evening. This light installation will improve security and ensure more business hours for our men and women in the market and centre as a whole,” Orengo stated.

However, the launch rubbed some Kenyans the wrong way, questioning why the governor was busy performing the duties of a Member of the County Assembly (MCA).

“An MCA should have commissioned this. We would like to see you commissioning piped water projects, Hi-Tech medical equipment, county road projects, fish storage and processing plants, and mango juice factory in Rarieda,” Allan Odour stated.

Kenyans also went after the governor after another photo exposed the sorry state of the road at the centre.

“The road looks bad your excellency. It is just mud everywhere, Make it motorable,” Martin Tairo Stated

Additionally, other Twitter users went on to advise the governor to launch airports and factories for production despite being new in office.

“Jim you are new in office but to be honest it’s 2022 this should be done by the village elder, not even your MCAs should be launching such. You are the president of a semiautonomous region launching airports and factories for production is something I would strongly advise,” Kenyan Ink Stated.

Orengo, a first-time governor but a veteran politician is out to fulfil the promises he made in the run-up to the elections.

Siaya County has also hit the headlines after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission - EACC raised the red flag over the misappropriation of about Ksh400 million.
