The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), on Thursday, April 19, announced that the dualling of the Bomas-Rongai-Kiserian road will resume after six years.

Speaking during a stakeholder's public engagement forum in Rongai, KeNHA Nairobi Region Coordinator, Grace Mathaai, stated that the 27-kilometre stretch would be expanded to ease traffic.

KeNHA will also construct service lanes with new modern designs.

"We want to separate the human and vehicle traffic. We will have designated lanes for the vehicles, bodaboda, and pedestrians," Mathaai assured.

On his part, Governor Joseph Ole Lenku welcomed the development and pledged his full commitment to the project.

"We are here to prepare for the dualling of the road from Bomas of Kenya to Kona Baridi and looking forward to the second phase of expanding the road from Kisenya to Magadi," Ole Lenku remarked.

However, Mathaai explained that the road reserves and sections along the highway would have to be cleared to pave the way for the expansion.

She called on support from the county government and local police to ensure a smooth process but assured locals that those affected by the expansion would be compensated.

Kajiado North Member of Parliament (MP) Onesmus Ngogoyo disclosed that he held discussions on how traders in the market would be affected, one of the key issues in contention.

On February 11, 2017, then-Deputy President, William Ruto, Ongata Rongai residents that the road would be expanded once he assumed power.

The project was among several promised or launched by Ruto that stalled or never materialised

On March 7, the Head of State came under fire after relaunching the Captain-Ol Kalau road five years after he was commissioned in 2018.

Statehouse Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed explained that the project stalled following the rift between Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta following the handshake.
