A Mumbai High Court has revealed how young girls are being trafficked from Nepal and India to Nairobi with the promise of better job opportunities.
As reported by Hindustan Times on Monday, March 18, this was brought to the open after a Mumbai resident was brought to the dock over trafficking charges.
The Mumbai High Court heard that the tycoon was in charge of planning a sophisticated operation that attempted to traffic vulnerable young women from Nepal and India.
It was heard that the Indian national lured the young girls to Nairobi with the promise of earning lucrative salaries working in the city’s entertainment industry.
Detailing the scope of the trafficking ring, it was revealed that the accused worked with several contacts who helped in the recruitment business.
The young girls mostly in their junior years were told that they would be given a Ksh200,000 monthly salary as well as having all their travel expenses paid.
To make the deal more lucrative, the ladies were further promised free high-end accommodation in Nairobi should they accept to travel from Nepal and India.
Once they landed in Nairobi, their passports were confiscated and they were forced to engage in illegal activities as well as being assaulted.
They were blackmailed and should they report to the police or their home embassies, they would be accused of drug trafficking.
The trafficking ring was first blown up by the Kenyan police when they raided a high-end club in Nairobi where some of the girls were trapped.
Subsequently, they were deported to their home countries while the suspects went into hiding.
He was later arrested on December 18, 2022, at Ahmedabad Airport and human trafficking charges levelled against him.
