Reports of a plane veering off the runway at Wilson Airport emerged on Tuesday, March 26, with travellers sharing videos of the incident.

Additionally, photos shared on online platforms showed that part of the plane was indeed off the runaway and stuck in mud.

A source at the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), who sought anonymity, confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke that the incident happened on Tuesday morning.

It was explained that the incident happened shortly after the pilot had landed safely. Our source indicated that part of the plane got off the runway while the pilot was making a turn.

According to our source, the morning incident was not considered to be major with no one getting injured during the incident.

"I have confirmed the incident. The pilot did not overshoot the runway. They are calling it a runway excursion. The pilot's landing was okay.

"However, when he was turning the aircraft he got into mud. There were no casualties. Operations were also not disrupted," the source explained to Kenyans.co.ke.

Meanwhile, a full report on the incident is expected to be prepared by the relevant authorities in due course.

At the time of publication, officials of the airport were on site and strategising how the plane would be removed from the mud.

The most affected part of the plane was the landing wheels - the wheels usually located just beneath the cockpit area in most planes.

Reports also noted that the current weather conditions worsened the situation. Should have it been sunny, it would have been easier to redirect the plane back to the runway.

The Tuesday incident comes weeks after 2 people died after a collision between a passenger plane and an aircraft belonging to a training school.
