A businessman based in Narok County was taken hostage by seven individuals who posed as police officers.

According to a police report obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the businessman had visited his friend's house in Narok near the Bureti Deputy County Commissioner's residence and was set to return home.

While driving his Toyota Fielder out of his friend's compound at around 12:57 pm, he was blocked by two motor vehicles, a Toyota RAV4 and a Toyota Oxio whereby seven men alighted and introduced themselves as police officers.

Armed with three pistols, the individuals placed the businessman in handcuffs, seized his two mobile phones and ordered him to board the Toyota RAV4 motor vehicle.

Two men boarded the victim's motor vehicle, and all three cars were driven towards Bomet via the Kaprong direction.

The RAV4 vehicle paused at a local petrol station, while the other two vehicles continued the journey. The men returned one of the victim's confiscated phones and instructed him to cover the cost of the fuel.

During this exchange, the businessman promptly deactivated his vehicle's engine using the car tracking mobile application. Unbeknownst to the suspects, the victim handed the phone back to them, and they resumed the journey towards the Kiptagich area in Mau Forest, where they eventually halted.

The businessman was ordered to transfer all his money from his bank account to his mobile phone account for easier withdrawal. He had a total of Ksh131,000 which he deposited to his mobile money account.

Further, they ordered him to call his friends and relatives which he did and received Ksh25,000. The suspects then proceeded towards a mobile money shop where the businessman was forced to withdraw the entire funds.

Upon receiving the cash, the suspects sped away, leaving him in a deserted area. The businessman is reported to have boarded a motorcycle where he headed to a police station and filed a report of the incident.

Preliminary investigations revealed that two suspects, driving the businessman's Toyota Fielder, fled from the scene after the vehicle stopped on the main road owing to the disabled system.

At the moment, six of the seven suspects have been arrested and are placed in custody. According to the police report, this involves a police officer attached to an incumbent Nominated Senator.

Police officers are pursuing the seventh suspect involved in the incident.
