The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers have arrested a gang of five members who have been terrorizing residents in Naivasha.

According to a statement released on Friday, March 1, the Directorate launched investigations following a report by a woman who claimed to have been ambushed in her home by the gang at night in the Mirera Estate on Valentine's Day.

“At 3 am on Valentine's Day, police at Naivasha Police Station received a distressed female report from Mirera estate who had been accosted by a five-man gang at her house and held hostage from 9 pm to 2,” DCI stated.

During the arrest, the woman, her two children and the house help were held hostage while receiving death threats from the weapon-yielding men.

The gang proceeded to ransack the house before making off with two TV sets, two laptops, a JBL sound bar, and four mobile phones.

“They loaded the valuables in the complainant’s Nissan Dualis and sped off. Luckily, no one was physically harmed in the incident,” DCI added.

In collaboration with the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) team, the DCI in Naivasha initiated a search for the perpetrators in the area, with assistance from the Operations Action Team (OAT).

After a thorough analysis of the intelligence leads and evidence, the officers tracked the gang to the Northern part of Nakuru. The team successfully cornered one of the suspects.

In his possession was a black Nissan Dualis fitted with plates KDE 0**Q. Upon verifying the chassis and engine numbers of the vehicle, it was discovered to have been registered under the name of the complainant.

In a similar incident, on February 22, a gang raided a businessman's home in the Kabuitu village in Meru and set fire to his vehicle, house, and two businesses.

The businessman, Moses Lichoro, claimed that he sought help from the police after receiving death threats. Policemen were deployed to guard his house and he also recorded a statement, however left the premises giving the gang the window to vandalize his home.

“I don’t know why the policemen left. Maybe someone told them to leave. Now I have lost property amounting to Ksh50 million," he alleged.
