Over 400 vehicle owners caught flouting traffic regulations now risk licence suspensions and revocations by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
This follows a crackdown conducted by the Authority since the start of this festive season, which has resulted in the detention of 42 drivers and the clamping of 418 vehicles due to non-compliance.
NTSA on Wednesday, December 24, revealed widespread non-compliance among motorists, with the Authority stating that it has so far flagged 1,702 safety violations over the past four days.
"Over the past four days, multi-agency compliance checks have identified 1,702 violations involving commercial, public service, and private vehicles," NTSA disclosed.
According to NTSA, these safety violations ranged from the absence or malfunctioning of speed limiters, driving under the influence, and operating unroadworthy motor vehicles to carrying excess passengers.
Additionally, some motorists were apprehended after they were reportedly found contravening insurance or the vehicle tax class requirements, while some were found operating without a driving licence.
The Authority revealed that some of these violations had resulted in severe road incidents, resulting in the loss of lives and serious injuries.
Among the most affected areas by these incidents are Kakamega, Bungoma, Nakuru, Nyeri, Siaya, Kiambu, Nairobi, Machakos, Narok, Kisii, Turkana, and Uasin Gishu Counties.
"Tragically, on 23 December 2025 alone, 16 incidents were recorded, resulting in 25 lives lost. Most of the victims were pedestrians (8), passengers (8), followed by motorcyclists (5), pillion passengers (3), and one driver," NTSA highlighted.
"We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wish a speedy recovery to those injured," the Authority added.
With the holiday travel at its peak, NTSA has urged all road users, including drivers, passengers, motorcyclists, pedestrians, and cyclists, to exercise extreme caution and strictly follow traffic rules.
This comes on the back of an ongoing multi-agency crackdown on rogue motorists along major highways involving the NTSA officials, the National Police Service (NPS) and the Judiciary.
