Homicide detectives have uncovered tools and confirmed the suspect in the murder of a sixty-year-old, Millicent Mwangi, in Nyandarua County.

This was after they conducted a scene enactment exercise on December 23, guided by the prime suspect, who turned out to be the deceased's son.

The detectives were able to uncover a machete believed to be the murder weapon, a bedsheet, a blanket, and other items the suspect had disposed of following the crime in the Malewa River.

The suspect was arrested on November 20, 2025, at his hideout in Kamulu.

He was later arraigned before the Specialised Pro-resolving Mediators Court in Olkalou on November 24, where detectives were granted a 21-day custodial order.

His case was scheduled for mention on January 19, 2026.

The victim disappeared on November 11 from Mwireri village in Olkalou, Nyandarua Central Sub-County.

Initially, she was reported as a missing person, but three days later, passers-by discovered a female torso stuffed in a sack along the Malewa–Kipipiri road, approximately 37 kilometres from Olkalou.

The torso, dressed in a whitish blouse with blue and black stripes, was taken to JM Kariuki Memorial Funeral Home for identification and autopsy.

The family later positively identified the torso as Millicent Mwangi, confirming the case as a murder.

Following this, the DCI Homicide Investigations Unit, working together with Nyandarua Central Sub-County detectives, launched a manhunt that led to the arrest of his son.

According to statistics from the DCI, there have been 1,011 homicide cases.

Meanwhile, according to the National Police Service data, there were 3,015 cases related to manslaughter and infanticide. Females accounted for 30 per cent of victims, with women aged 18–35 facing the highest risk.

Intimate partners or close acquaintances were responsible for the majority of female killings, highlighting ongoing domestic and societal challenges.
