A security guard manning a secondary school in Thika died while another sustained serious injuries after a machete-wielding gang raided the institution on Wednesday night.

The thugs ambushed the guards, breaking all doors at Karibaribi Secondary School's administration after which the six thugs gained access to the section and stole 16 laptops.

One of the guards succumbed to injuries while on the way to hospital whereas the other was still receiving medical attention by the time of publishing this article.

Expressing her grief and frustration, the widow of the guard who succumbed to injuries stated that her husband, who worked two jobs at two different schools, was the family's breadwinner.

She called on the authorities to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book.

Thika West Sub-county Police Commander Lawrence Muchangi while confirming the incident, stated that they had not narrowed down to a suspect yet. He however stated that the authority was working to rid the area of criminal activity.

The thieves raided the school where they stole 16 laptops and injured the watchmen. One died on the way to hospital. We have started investigations of the matter. Our officers are ready to restore calm and security in this area," he stated.

He also urged people to work hard to earn an honest living for themselves and not resort to robbery as it is a contravention of the law.

The police Commander further asked residents and medical practitioners to lookout for any persons that might have been injured in a separate incident on Wednesday where police killed two suspected criminals after a confrontation in the Ngoiwa Area.

Area residents faulted security officers for a poor response considering that the school is only 100 meters away from Karibaribi Police Station.

“It is sinister how the thugs who seemed not to be in a hurry executed their mission without police acting,” Hosea Irungu, the Board of Management Chairperson lamented.

In a nearby estate, only recently two people suspected to be thugs were gunned down by an off-duty officer as they attempted to break into his house.
