Police have launched a manhunt for armed men who attacked an Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at a car park in Vihiga County on Thursday at 1:00 am.

In an Occurrence Book (OB) report accessed by Kenyans.co.ke, it was revealed that the police boss had just parked his vehicle outside a plaza around Majengo Market before the ambush happened.

According to the OB report, an unknown number of men who were armed with knives waited as the OCS alighted from the vehicle before stabbing him in the head and the shoulder.

The police statement added that the gang also took the officer's Jericho pistol after stabbing him.

The gang, whose number is yet to be known, also stole two mobile phones, car keys and other personal items that were in the Toyota Premio car before fleeing the scene.

"A patrol team was alerted and a search party under the command of the Vihiga police team swung into action to track down and make a recovery," read the report in part.

"His car was recovered parked outside Maragoli plaza and intact."

Other officers also rushed the injured OCS to the neighbouring health facility for first aid. According to the police, the OCS is in stable condition.

On the other hand, investigations are underway to establish the motive behind the incident.

Investigators are also working around the clock to establish whether the OCS was targeted or whether the attack was random.

At the time of publication, none of the suspects had been identified or arrested.
