As questions continue to linger over the sudden death of former Lugari Member of Parliament, Cyrus Jirongo, CCTV footage has emerged showing the former minister's movement before his death has emerged.
The footage revealed that the accident between Jirongo's saloon car and the 65-seater bus occurred at exactly 2:19 am, a head-on collision, which instantly killed Jirongo.
According to the CCTV footage situated within the petrol station, it all begins at 2.18 am when Jirongo's white car enters the premises from the Nairobi direction.
Jirongo then drives slightly past the fuel pumps but does not stop to refuel, and within just 34 seconds, he makes a swift U-turn and exits the station and rejoins the highway heading back towards Nairobi.
At around 2:19:25, the CCTV footage also shows a bus suspected to be the one involved in an accident with Jirongo's vehicle heading towards Nakuru.
The footage depicts the bus moving at high speed while its headlights are fully on. Within seconds, the bus rams into the car and drags it on the tarmac about 25 metres.
The intensity of the collision makes the personal car spin violently before coming to a rest on the left-hand side of the road, which heads towards Nakuru town.
Smoke is then seen coming from Jirongo's vehicle, and at around 2:20 a.m., just one minute after the crash, another vehicle travelling toward Nairobi passes the wreckage and momentarily illuminates the accident scene.
The CCTV footage shows no immediate response, with no one alighting from the bus to check the situation. Moments later, a person is seen approaching the accident scene.
At approximately 2:48 am, nearly 49 minutes after the crash, a crowd began to approach the scene. However, it is not clear how long the deceased remained in the car before being retrieved.
Other vehicles were later recorded attempting to use an alternative route as traffic intensified along the busy road, with several vehicles spotted lining up as the police moved to clear the wreckage.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are still conducting investigations, piecing together Jirongo's final moments, with questions emerging on whether he was alone during the accident.
