Four suspects were handed some reprieve after the court postponed the ruling in the high-profile murder case of a former Kabete MP, George Muchai.
The magistrate said he was not ready to deliver judgment due to a heavy workload and scheduled the verdict for December 30, 2025.
The suspects faced charges of murdering the MP, his two bodyguards, and his driver on the night of February 6–7, 2015, along Kenyatta Avenue in Nairobi.
They were also accused of robbing a motor vehicle and personal items valued at Ksh416,000.
The prosecution closed its case in April 2025 after presenting 37 witnesses. In September 2025, the High Court ruled that four of the seven suspects had a case to answer, while three others were acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
The MP, a prominent politician and trade unionist, had served as a member of parliament for Kabete Constituency from 2013 until his death and was the Deputy Secretary-General of the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU).
On the morning of February 7, 2015, he was returning from a family gathering when his silver Toyota Fortuner was rammed at the Kenyatta Avenue–Uhuru Highway roundabout. Masked gunmen then opened fire at close range, killing him, his driver, and his bodyguards instantly.
Investigators recovered a G3 rifle and an AK-47 magazine from the residence of one suspect, while a gun safety pin found in a taxi used during the attack matched the rifle.
Ballistic and pathology reports confirmed that the victims died from close-range gunshot wounds consistent with a G3 rifle.
A protected taxi driver witness placed one of the suspects at the centre of the attack and confirmed the vehicle used, which had been stolen earlier that night in Wangige.
Before his death, the MP had raised concerns about threats from union officials.
“I have filed a petition seeking the removal of six key officials. These are the people who opposed my leadership and wish to eliminate me,” he stated before his murder.
