Police in Ngoingwa Village in Thika West, Kiambu County on Wednesday morning gunned down two men on suspicion of invading a shop in the area.

According to Thika West Sub-County Police Commander Lawrence Muchangi, the duo gained access to the shop after breaking through a perimeter wall that encloses the shop after which they began packing goods in sacks.

The police immediately got a tip-off from the public and embarked on a mission to pursue them, in the pursuit, the police apprehended the suspects, shot two of them dead, and in the process others escaped with critical injuries.

Muchangi while narrating the incident revealed that the suspects are alleged to be part of a group that also robbed a school within the area and beat up two watchmen.

In the ordeal, one security guard succumbed to the injuries while receiving treatment.

"The investigations have begun and police officers are ready to ensure that safety in this area is restored," Muchangi noted.

"This is just a group of young men and we will deal with them until this menace comes to an end."

In a similar incident three months ago, on November 23, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) gunned down two notorious robbers in Kibra, Nairobi County.

During the operation, one of the suspects began to shoot at the officers indiscriminately. The move prompted the sleuths to respond with finality.

Following the ordeal, the officers recovered six rounds of 9mm ammunition, 7 spent cartridges, and 4 bullet heads.

The suspects' bodies were subsequently transported to a city mortuary for identification.

While addressing the press on the incident, Kilimani Police Boss Moss Ndiwa noted police have enhanced operations to address such cases of robberies in the area.

“We also commend the public who are helping in this war on crime,” he noted.
