Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives on Wednesday gunned down two notorious robbers suspected of terrorising locals in Kibra and its environs.
In a statement, the DCI announced that the two suspects known by their aliases Rundo and Mulinyo were nabbed after members of the public tipped off the police about their activities.
During the operation, one of the suspects drew his firearm and started shooting indiscriminately at the officers.
"The wrong move prompted the ever-agile sleuths to respond with finality, fatally injuring the duo," read the DCI's statement.
DCI revealed that six rounds of 9mm ammunition, 7 spent cartridges, and 4 bullet heads were recovered alongside the firearm that the suspects used.
The suspects' bodies were subsequently transported to a city mortuary for identification.
This came after police officers on Wednesday killed two men in Alego Usonga, Siaya County suspected of killing police officers who had been tasked with transporting Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) papers to Mahero Secondary School.
“The MP5 and AK47 Rifle were recovered at Hawinga from the house of a suspect who escaped the police dragnet, while two suspects were fatally wounded,” the National Police Service communicated in a statement.
Highlighting the high crime rates in the city, the DCI on November 15 also arrested 8 suspects accused of perpetrating $439 trillion fraud.
At the time, the agency stated that the suspects had targeted two foreign businessmen from the Netherlands.
During the operation, several boxes stashed with fake US dollars were seized.
