The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Thursday, January 19, narrated a fierce encounter between Nairobi-based police officers and robbery suspects.

Officers who were on a routine patrol along Kangundo Road in an unmarked car spotted what they described as a suspicious motorbike at around Shujaa area.

The officers pursued the motorbike and intercepted after a short drive to the nearby petrol station within Njiru.

"They immediately intercepted the bike at Kobil gas station and the in-charge asked the miscreants to identify themselves.

"Who are you? he asked. But the defiant trio answered with gunfire, provoking a shootout that sent two of them back to their maker instantly," DCI narrated in a statement.

What followed was a quick suppressing fire from the hawk-eyed officers who also gave chase after the suspects.

According to the police, the pillion passengers were preying on their next victim when they came face to face with the officers.

It was reported that the police officers escape unhurt after the fierce exchange of fire at the petrol station.

"Sounds of deafening gunfire reverberated across the plains, rat-a-tat-tat-tat!!! as the determined undercover officers silenced the armed thugs.

"The shootout was followed by the groaning vroom sound of a speeding motorbike flying past the dusty town, as the third suspect shifted gears in quick succession to save himself from the hail of terrifying government ammo," DCI narrated.

By the time guns went silent, two suspects were dead on the ground while the other escaped under a heavy barrage of police firepower.

"With two of the miscreants already down and a firearm recovered, the officers called off the chase as a bird in hand is worth two in the bush," DCI report read in part.

A firearm with a serial number KE-AP G0857 loaded with three rounds of 9mm calibre was recovered after a quick search on the suspects' bodies.

"It was discovered that the ceska pistol had been snatched from a senior officer within Embakasi police station mid-December, 2022, DCI revealed.

Specialists from the DCI visited the petrol station in Njiru and processed the crime scene.

"Crime scene detectives later processed the scene and recovered the relevant exhibits, before moving the bodies of the slain duo to the City mortuary," DCI confirmed.

On Wednesday, January 4, 2022, (DCI) officers gunned down a man caught robbing a woman in Nairobi's Mlango Kubwa Estate.

Detectives responded to ululations and alarms from members of the public who witnessed the 22-year-old suspect attacking the woman while on her way to work at around 8 am.
