Police officers in Migori County have gunned down a local pastor caught trailing a gang of robbers in Migori County.
In a statement shared on Friday, police officers revealed that the pastor was part of a nine member gang that had been terrorising Migori County residents.
The report indicated that the gang was planning to attack local businesses within Migori town when police officers laid an ambush that led to the death of three suspects.
"In collaboration with the Criminal Investigation officers at the police headquarters, the three suspected thugs were killed after fierce exchange of fire.
"The officers also arrested three others in the ongoing crackdown on criminal gangs," the police statement read in parts.
The operation that was led by Migori County Police Commander Peter Kimani also saw the recovery of an AK47 rifle, bullets and other items.
According to the police, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers used technology to identify, track and arrest the suspect.
Reports indicate that the bodies recovered from the scene of the crime were ferried to Migori Mortuary where they will undergo autopsy before the deceased persons are laid to rest.
The arrested suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Friday morning as the police continue with the crackdown on criminals in the larger South Nyanza region.
Meanwhile, officers have launched manhunt for three suspects who managed to escape the police dragnet.
The National Police Service has asked members of the public to file reports of any suspicious activities in order to tame run-away crime in the area.
