Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has defended the newly elected Baringo County Senator Vincent Chemitei against critics opposing his leadership over his youthful age.

Speaking during a women's empowerment rally in Kolawa, Tiaty, Baringo County on Wednesday Dec 10, Murkomen declared his support for the UDA senator against his critics.

The CS claimed that a leader from the region had threatened to curse the youthful leader following Chemitei's victory in the by-elections.

"I was surprised to hear a certain leader saying that he will curse young leaders; what have the young leaders done?" Murkomen asked.

Murkomen defended the senator's age, saying that Vincent Chemitei is old enough to handle leadership roles.

The CS further claimed that many leaders in the Rift Valley region were elected while they were in their youthful age.

Highlighting his very own political journey, Murkomen says he was first elected Senator for Elgeyo Marakwet County while he was 32 years old. He also mentioned that President William Ruto was elected into Parliament at the age of 28.

"Governor Sang was first elected when he was 28, Aaron Cheruiyot was elected when he was 29, and even President William Ruto was elected as an MP when he was 28," the CS said.

Murkomen urged the elders across the Rift Valley region to stop attacking the youthful leaders and instead support them in their political endeavors.

The Cabinet Secretary promised to support young leaders across the Rift Valley region, calling on them to take up leadership roles.

During the meeting, the CS urged Baringo residents to continue surrendering illegal firearms to the government in an attempt to end the constant insecurity in the North Rift.
