Chaos ensued at a fundraiser held at a school in Kigumo, Murang'a County on Monday after the supporters of Maragua MP Mary Wamaua clashed with those of Woman Representative Betty Maina.

The event attended by 3 cabinet secretaries including Aisha Jumwa of Gender on the invitation of nominated senator Veronicah Maina degenerated into a chaotic scene veering off-script from what was supposed to be a noble initiative to raise funds to support women.

The tipping point was when Betty Maina and her husband Erick Wamumbi who is also the MP for Mathira arrived and spoke at the event.

Videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke depicted the chaos breaking out after Wamaua attempted to cut off Wamumbi from completing his speech prompting an exchange of words between the two lawmakers — Wamaua and Wamumbi.

Soon after, the supporters of the two leaders started going at each other, engaging in a brawl.

A flyer distributed on various social media handles ahead of the event showed that various cabinet secretaries were expected to attend the fundraiser.

This includes; Simon Chelugui of Cooperatives and MSMEs, Alice Wahome of Lands and Jumwa.

Residents of the area, however, expressed their disappointment in their leaders' conduct arguing that it was unbecoming.

The chaos disrupted the event forcing the fundraiser to come to an abrupt end as it took some time for the crowd to be contained.

Incidentally, this is part of a growing trend where political events have been disrupted by rowdy crowds.

During a Presidential rally in Bomet held on March 16, a faction of the youth heckled the Bomet Governor  Hillary Barchok cutting off his speech.

President William Ruto was forced to intervene and quell the chaos to allow the governor to continue with his address.
