Kenya Railways on Tuesday, April 16, ordered all tenants and licensees of the Corporation's assets to provide proof of rent payment to identify any discrepancies during transactions in the past months.

In a notice published in the local dailies, Kenya Railways directed that all evidence of payment should be presented to the nearest KR offices in Nairobi, Nakuru, Mombasa, Kisumu and Eldoret.

After a review of the documents, the tenant or licensee should be issued with a receipt as proof of payment.

"Take note that the Corporation will take appropriate action as provided for in the Tenancy Agreement on failure to regularize the accounts," the corporation warned.

According to KR, all payments should be made via the eCitizen platform by following a six-step procedure as follows: dialing the USSD code *222# and selecting the "Make Payments" option.

Enter KRC123 as the service code and key in the serial number (say 1234) as the KRC Real Estate Reference. (Confirm individual serial number from Kenya Railways offices).

Upon confirmation, enter the amount then select option 1 to confirm. Key in your mobile money pin.

Additionally, Kenya Railways warned all business owners who have set up their units along the railway operational corridor against encroachment.

"We hereby notify members of the public that encroachment on the railway operational corridor is an offence punishable by law," the notice read in part.

"Our operational corridor lies along the Mombasa to Suswa Standard Gauge Railway line corridor, Mombasa – Kisumu – Malaba Meter Gauge railway corridor, with branch lines to Nakuru – Kisumu, Voi – Taveta, Nairobi – Nanyuki, Gilgil – Nyahururu, Kisumu – Butere, Eldoret – Kitale, Konza – Magadi and railway sidings."

The orders by Kenya Railways are in line with the government's efforts to consolidate all payments through the eCitizen platform to increase revenue collection.

Through this, President William Ruto's administration aims at collecting Ksh1 billion daily as revenue from the unified platform.
