Nairobi County Governor Johnson Sakaja once found himself in the limelight after players hired by the county government of Nairobi got stuck in Kilifi.
The players had travelled to Kilifi to represent Nairobi County in inter-county sports competitions but were eliminated on Thursday, April 18.
Upon their elimination, the players were scheduled for a journey back to the capital city on Friday, an affair that did not go as planned.
Following the dilemma, the players vented their frustrations as they called for a quick intervention from the county governor.
According to the players, since their elimination three days ago, they have been stuck in Mombasa and have similarly not been paid their dues as promised.
“Here we have nothing. We were hired to play, we're not on the payslip. Kindly help us tag the officials, and help us get back to Nairobi,” one of the players pleaded.
The player while expressing their displeasure, attributed the problem to fuel constraints due to inadequate finances to fund the refill.
In a notice addressed to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, the players demanded an immediate resolution to the problem to travel back to the city.
The Inter Counties competition was organised by the Kenya Youth Inter County Sports Association (KYISA) and saw over 20 counties participate in the competition.
While acknowledging the event, Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung'aro revealed that the games would see young people from across the country compete, interact and share ideas and culture.
"On behalf of my administration and the people of Kilifi, we welcome you to our home of unmatched hospitality, culture, food and beautiful sites," Mung'aro.
The competition, which kicked off on April 15, is currently ongoing and will be concluded on April 21.
