Comedian Eric Omondi on Wednesday, March 27, exposed Nairobi County officers, popularly known as ‘kanjos’, harassing and mishandling a business lady based within the Central Business District (CBD).

In a video shared on his X platform, the comedian condemned the act, as he acted fast to help the women involved in the incident.

In the video, which has since caused an uproar online, the kanjos could be seen lifting and shoving the woman down on the ground.

The askaris, on noticing they were being recorded, rounded up the rest of the traders into the back of the county van and sped off.

The scene attracted a huge crowd, as people called on Governor Sakaja to rein in on the kanjos.

“I have caught them in the act, this is someone's child,” Eric Omondi stated recording a woman who had fainted lying on the ground. The woman was allegedly choked by one of the kanjos for failing to pay some money.

“They caught me, beat me up, two of them carried me and threw me down on the ground,” one of the assaulted women narrated.

Witnesses further urged Omondi to help them call an ambulance, as one of the women was in critical condition after the kanjos kicked her in the stomach several times.

The county askaris have been a menace to traders operating within the Nairobi CBD, with numerous assault cases reported in the past.

In a similar incident, residents in March beat up Nairobi city council officers, following an altercation after they confiscated plywood among other things from their shop.

In a video shared on various social media platforms, the residents could be seen offloading the confiscated materials from the Kanjos van. The commotion ensued while one of the officers tried to stop the shop owners from taking back the materials.

The video elicited mixed reactions from the public, as people condemned the act.
