CORD Now 'Sweet-talks' IEBC Commissioners

The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) has made two promises to Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials should they agree to leave office.

Speaking at a fundraiser in Mbooni Constituency, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka assured the poll officials that the coalition would ensure IEBC commissioners get full benefits if they resigned from their positions.

According to Musyoka, the Opposition would also pardon the officials and ensure they are spared prosecution if they voluntarily quit their jobs.

“I want to extend an olive branch; if the commissioners resign, CORD will make sure that they get their dues. They will not be prosecuted as they will have acted like statesmen and women,” he stated.

The former Vice President, however, clarified that the amnesty would only be extended to commissioners who were not implicated in the Chicken-gate scandal which he said tainted IEBC's credibility.

“But for those who were involved in the Chicken-gate scandal, they must pay for their mistakes,” declared Musyoka.

Mr Musyoka reiterated the Coalition's push for the replacement of IEBC commissioners affirming that there was enough time for new officials to catch up with operations at the body without postponing the 2017 elections.

“We have one year and three months to the next General Election. An extra day in power for Jubilee is a painful day for this country,” he stated.

The poll officials have time and again maintained that they would not resign and dared anyone with incriminating evidence against them to submit it to authorities.
