Former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo on Wednesday night revealed that his daughter was almost killed by thugs in broad daylight.
Speaking during an interview on the Jeff Koinange Live (JKL) show, Jirongo divulged that on June 1, his daughter and her American boyfriend were on Riara road headed for a coffee date when two assassins riding on a motorcycle made a stop in front of the couple's vehicle.
Jirongo narrated that the armed thugs went ahead to demand a computer that was being held by the American identified as Cameron Chase, but he refused to comply.
“When they arrived where the people were with the motorbike somebody pulls out a gun and asks the American boy to give a computer he was holding. The young man asks why? They turned the gun and pointed at my daughter. He then moved in and pushed my daughter out of the way of the barrel of the gun. They turned on this young man and just shot him," Jirongo said.
He noted that Mr Chase, eventually succumbed to the bullet wounds and his daughter had gone to North Carolina, USA, for the burial.
Jirongo added that on June 2, a day after the boy was shot, his daughter received a death threat message which he believed was directed to him (Jirongo).
“Wewe ujichunge sana, Hiyo mdomo yako na ukishindwa tutakuonyesha kuizima. Sisi hatuogopi hata kidogo (Be very careful and shut your mouth. If you cannot then we will do it for you. We are not afraid)," the message read in part.
The former legislator mentioned that he was shocked when he told his predicament to a friend in the political circles who revealed that he had also received the same message from a different number.
Jirongo, who fears that he could be a target of assassination, indicated that the dark era of murder could be cropping up again in the country.
