Police Officers Torture International Detective

Two police officers and a taxi driver were on Monday arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts and charged with abducting and torturing an Interpol intelligence officer.

Wycliffe Omangi, Zacharia Gachucha and Benson Macharia were accused of forcefully driving Buregeya Athanaze, a Burundian, to Ngong forest where they harassed him.

The three are said to have moved the Interpol official from Capricon Grand Restaurant to the forest where they threatened him demanding Sh200,000.

Appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Jane Kamau, the suspects denied telling the criminal intelligence officer to sell his property and vacate the country while threatening him with their gun.

The court heard that the Burundi national tried to plead with the three to release him since he was a diplomat but his cry was never heard.

The accused persons denied the charges claiming that the purported offence was committed while they were discharging their duties.

Magistrate Kamau released the three on a Sh1 Million bond and a surety of the same without an alternative of cash bail.

The judge ordered that the accused be supplied with details of all witness statements that will be used to build the case.

The next hearing will be on June 17.
