VIDEO: TSC Orders Teachers To Work Despite Strike Ultimatum

The Teachers Service Commission has ordered all teachers to report to work on Monday.

The commission warned that teachers who will not report to schools for the the third term starting on 31st August will face disciplinary action.

The Sunday statement from the TSC came even as Kenya Union of Teaches (KNUT) and Kenya Union of Post Primary School Teachers (KUPPET) gave the government until midnight on Monday, to implement the 50-60 per cent salary increment ordered by the court, or they go on strike.

In the statement, however, the TSC maintained that it has not recieved any strike notice from KNUT or KUPPET adding that the teachers could not boycott work since the matter was still at the Court of Appeal.

KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion and Kuppet Secretary General Akelo Misori told teachers last week not to report to work for the third term unitl the salary increment is implemented.

The TSC needs Sh 17 billion to facilitate the pay increment for teachers.

Treasury CS Henry Rotich said it was impossible for the governmnet to meet those numbers, without burdening Kenyans with significant tax increase.

Rotich said that the governmnet was looking at all the options, adding that they were limited.
