DCI George Kinoti Appoints Special Team to Probe Police Officers in Fight Over Stolen Lorry

The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti has been forced to act after some police officers were involved in a fight over a stolen lorry.

Kinoti, on Wednesday, appointed Nairobi spy chief Ireri Kamwende to lead investigations into the issue after allegations that a side of the officers who clashed was involved in crime.

The clash, between Parklands officers and their Tigoni counterparts, took place at Red Hill where a lorry that had reportedly been stolen in Mai Mahiu was found.

A report filed at the DCI headquarters by Limuru officers revealed that after the stolen lorry was booked in the occurrence book, Kiambu County shared its number with all Kiambu officers and the neighbouring Nairobi.

Tigoni police then launched a search for the vehicle and found it abandoned at Red Hill but when they arrived there, they found two men standing by its side.

The two men then identified themselves as officers attached to Parklands Police Station but declined to produce identification documents prompting arrest from the Tigoni counterparts.

Before they could leave the crime scene, another bunch of police officers appeared and also claimed that they were from Parklands Station and that they had also been trailing the stolen lorry.

This time, however, the officers even proved that they were legitimate by producing their job IDs.

The Tigoni officers reported the matter to their bosses accusing the Parklands side of possibly colluding with criminals hence terrorising Kiambu residents.

At the end of the operation, three officers, a police driver and two sergeants attached to Parklands were ordered to appear before the DCI, on Friday, for questioning.

Kamwende and his team have also visited the two stations and recorded statements from officers involved in the operation.
