ODM Party leader Raila Odinga has welcomed back to the party several leaders who had unceremoniously left the party.

This was during a meeting that was held at the party headquarters at Chungwa House on Wednesday, March 4, in the presence of Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and other ODM officials.

A majority of the leaders had left the party in the run to the August 8, 2017, General Election after losing out on party nomination tickets.

They included former Kasarani Member of Parliament Elizabeth Ongoro, former Makadara MP Reuben Ndolo among several other leaders from South Nyanza.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Ndolo expressed his delight at rejoining the party, stating that he was determined to contribute to ODM's national development agenda.

"What I can tell you is that we are back home. Whatever happened during the nominations we can put it behind us and move forward, as individuals and as a party," Ndolo stated.

"If our party leader was able to put his differences behind and shake hands with the president for the good of the country, who are we?" he added.

Also present at the meeting was former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo. When Kenyans.co.ke reached out to the legislator, he informed that he had rejoined the party a while back.

Midiwo had officially ditched ODM after the party failed to nullify the Gem Constituency nominations in which he lost to incumbent MP Elisha Odhiambo.

The leaders apologised for quitting the party pledging their allegiance to the ODM party and leader Raila Odinga.

Ndolo left the party in 2017 after he lost the party's nomination ticket to incumbent Makadara legislator George Aladwa.

Ongoro officially defected from ODM on April 5, 2017, after MP Tom Kajwang’ was handed a direct nomination to vie for Ruaraka parliamentary seat.

She had then claimed that the party was in disarray and some of the top leaders had denied her a chance to run for the Ruaraka parliamentary seat, instead, showing support for Kajwang'.

Ongoro had alleged that the party undermined women leaders for a long time and the move to give Kajwang a direct ticket to vie for the parliamentary seat was evidence enough that there was victimization.
