Two boda boda riders on the evening of Saturday, April 18, had a brush with death while attempting to cross a flooded river on their motorbikes.

In a video shared on social media platforms, the two are seen separately attempting to cross the flooded river in Chesegon area, West Pokot County, when they were overpowered by the raging waters.

The first rider is seen bravely crossing the river before losing his grip when the raging waters swept both him and the motorcycle away. He was, however, lucky that his colleagues were nearby and they pulled him off the motorcycle.

Determined not to lose his source of livelihood, the man is seen chasing after the motorcycle along the riverbanks which was successfully retrieved by his colleagues.

Despite witnessing the plight of his colleague, a second rider attempts to cross the river that had overflown the bridge that appears to be made of concrete but he is quickly swept away even after his friends tried to pull him out.

He sinks into a deep section of the river where he is completely covered by the raging waters.

Daring residents, who are watching by the river banks, however, rush in and manage to rescue the man.

All that happens amidst screams of tens of witnesses who were by the riverbank.

Towards the end of the two-minute clip, the two motorcycles are retrieved from the river as muffled reprimands are heard in the background against the folly of the two men.

Elsewhere in the same county, several people, including a police officer and chief were feared dead following heavy rains experienced on the afternoon of Saturday.

Floodwaters resulting from the heavy downpour starting at around 3 p.m. submerged several parts of the region, with Chesogon Market, a primary school, and a police station submerged by water.
