Gachagua Pledges to Sponsor 10 Pwani University Students

The Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua on Thursday, April 4, pledged to sponsor ten students from Pwani Univeristy to complete their studies.

“I will pay the school fees for 10 students who are very needy as a way of remembrance of my visit,” stated the Deputy President.

The Rigathi Gachagua Foundation which is run by the Deputy President will be expected to take on the students who will be fronted by the school’s administration.

Further, the Deputy President confirmed the change in the funding models of universities in Kenya to enable more students to go through the education systems in the country.

Details of the model state that it gives guidance on full, partial and loan financing based on the financial background of the student.

This is contrary to the previous funding model which has contributed a standard rate for each student while receiving funding.

He also added that the model will also be developed better to capture the feedback of Kenyan students.

“If the student leaders have a contribution to make, we shall create a mechanism to listen to them. We are willing to receive more ideas to improve,” the Deputy President elaborated.

Additionally, during the event, the Principal Secretary for Higher Education and Research, Dr Beatrice Inyangala explained that the model had already received feedback from stakeholders which they had incorporated.  

PS Inyangala further elaborated that the students will have an opportunity to give feedback on the model to meet the needs of all students.

In a separate engagement on Wednesday, Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria adopted three grandchildren to the lady who was the face of the hustler campaign as a Mama Mboga.

CS Kuria pledged to aid the students as they went through educational institutions and finally support them in securing employment opportunities.
