The Orange Democratic Party has announced the dates for the highly anticipated football tournament leading up to its 20th anniversary celebrations in Mombasa.
In a statement on October 7, the party revealed that the matches will kick off on Thursday, October 9 and end on Friday, October 10.
The tournament is set to bring together football giants and rivals, Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, as well as Shabana FC and Mombasa's Bandari FC.
In a draw carried out last week, it was determined that Bandari FC, which is also the host, will face off with AFC Leopards in the first match on Thursday at 2pm.
The second match of the day will be between Kisii's Shabana FC and Gor Mahia FC at 4pm, the same day.
The losers of both matches will then meet on Friday at 12pm, while the winners will play in the finals at 2pm.
Overall winners are set to play an exhibition match with Chungwa FC, which will comprise players from the ODM party and ODM Members of Parliament featuring in the Bunge FC.
All the matches will be played at the Mbaraki Sports Grounds.
These new dates come just a few days after the party announced that it was postponing its main event for the anniversary celebrations, which had been slated for October 10 to 12 in Mombasa.
In a communique on Friday, ODM announced that the three-day main event would now take place from November 14 to 16.
“In our briefing to the Party Leader, we highlighted the ongoing demands and requests from counties that we have not yet visited in the course of our party's anniversary engagements,” the statement by National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed read.
However, successful celebrations for the anniversary have already been held in Busia, Wajir, Kisii, and Narok counties.
The postponement came amid speculation that the party leader, Raila Odinga, was hospitalised outside the country, an assertion that the party has dismissed as mere rumours manufactured by the United Opposition.
