The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced that part of the Ksh28.8 billion loan by the African Development Bank (AfDB) for the Lesseru- Kitale - and Morpus - Lokichar Road upgrading project has been allocated to seek consultancy services.
In a notice issued on Tuesday, October 7, KeNHA sought consultancy services for community health awareness and sensitisation campaigns for the Lesseru- Kitale - and Morpus - Lokichar Road upgrading project.
According to KeNHA, the consultancy services will focus on integrating health and gender awareness initiatives covering HIV/AIDS, STIs, TB, malaria, mental health, substance abuse, and reproductive health into the road project, while promoting gender mainstreaming and safeguarding both workers and local communities from related risks.
“The Government of the Republic of Kenya has received financing from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to finance the Multinational: Kenya - South Sudan Road Corridor, Lesseru-Kitale and Morpus-Lokichar Road Upgrading Project Phase 1 project,” KeNHA revealed.
“It intends to apply part of the proceeds for this loan to make eligible payments under the contract for the provision of Consultancy Services for Community Health Awareness and Sensitization Campaigns for the Lesseru –Kitale and Morpus – Lokichar Road Upgrading Project,” it added.
The 197-kilometer road corridor, which runs through Lesseru via Nadapal and Kapoeta before arriving in Juba, South Sudan, spans the Great Rift Valley and links Kenya with South Sudan.
The road upgrade will comprise civil works for the building of a single-carriageway road that is roughly seven metres wide, as well as bitumen re-carpeting of the highway.
The civil works will also include the construction of service roads, town loop roads, and access roads, as well as the development of specific socioeconomic infrastructure.
Interested applicants were invited to submit their applications for the services, with the Authority noting that the contract would be for a period of 48 months.
Further, interested firms were required to provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services. Such information included brochures, descriptions of experience in similar assignments, availability of appropriate skills among staff, among others.
KeNHA disclosed that the request for the Expression of Interest (EoI) document may be obtained by eligible consultants from its website or the Government of Kenya Supplier Portal.
The Authority directed that Expressions of interest must be delivered in written form and clearly marked with the Assignment Title and Tender number and deposited in the box at its headquarters by Tuesday, October 28.
