Directorate of Criminal Investigations detectives on Friday, March 6, rescued a motorist who wa being hounded by armed thugs.
According to a statement from the DCI, detectives found the driver at the mercy of the five suspects along Race Course Road in Nairobi.
Detectives working jointly with KPS officers had received an alert from the Integrated Command, Control and Communication (IC3) Centre and acted upon it swiftly.
The detectives stated that one of the suspects opened fire when he was ordered to surrender, forcing officers to retaliate.
Four fled while their accomplice engaged police officers.
He was cornered and fatally injured. A pistol with two live rounds was recovered from the suspect.
The victim who is a businessman at Nyamakima was rescued unhurt besides his Samsung phone disappearing with the four who escaped but are being sought by the DCI.
This comes barely a week after detectives shot dead four individuals who had allegedly kidnapped a Chinese national at a house in Nairobi's Dagoretti estate.
The kidnappers had locked up the victim and solicited a Ksh100 million ransom to secure his release.
The suspects had sent the victim's brother ransom messages indicating that any further delay would lead to his death.
The detectives swiftly acted upon receiving forensic intelligence reports. They tracked down the suspects to a Sun Track estate where they found the victim and the armed men.
