Fallen police officer Caroline Kangogo died of a single gunshot wound on the head, chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor announced on Tuesday, July 27 at Moi Teaching Referral Hospital, Eldoret.

Oduor did not confirm whether she died by suicide or not but stated that results indicated that she died by a single gunshot wound to the head through the chin, causing damage to her skull and brain.

The results indicated that Kangogo died inside the bathroom at her parents home in Anin, Elgeyo Marakwet on Friday, July 16.

“There was a hole in her head caused by the bullet and areas of burning called muscle print. The incident happened at the crime scene

"There were stories of whether she was shot or she shot herself. We shall only establish that once we do more tests. We have taken swabs on the hand to find out whether there was gunshot residue. As a pathologist, my job is to establish the cause of death. We shall only establish the manner of death—either suicide, accident or natural death—once we see the lab results," Oduor stated.

DCI will also release a more conclusive ballistic report on the gun found at the crime scene. Kangogo will now be buried on Thursday, July 29, according to the family members.

The autopsy was postponed on Friday, July 23 after Oduor failed to show up, decrying that he had been informed late. Kangogo's father broke down outside the hospital lamenting that the delay was intentional.

"I want to bury my daughter. I do not have any problems with anyone. I just want my daughter's body," former police officer Barnaba Kibor complained.

The family had scheduled her burial for Saturday, July 24, but the authorities declined to release her body. Kangogo left an alleged suicide note asking the parents to cremate her in her wedding gown.

Her father, however, insisted that she would be buried according to the family's Christian beliefs.

John Ogweno, a police officer who was allegedly shot dead by Kangogo was interred at his home in Sengre Village, Rachuonyo East Sub-County in Homa Bay County, on Friday, July 23.
