President William Ruto will buy a new school bus for his former institution Kapsabet High School following a write-off of the old vehicle after a fatal accident on Saturday, March 16.

This was communicated by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday, March 17, following a visit to the institution.

Gachagua further warned drivers to be careful while driving especially when carrying students.

“I have been told about the bus that has been written off, and I want to give a commitment on behalf of President William Ruto, I will talk to him later in the day and I'm sure, there's no doubt that the President will give you another bus,” Gachagua stated.

He explained that this was necessary so that the school could continue embarking on tours across the country.

During the ill-fated accident, a teacher and student were confirmed dead with several students sustaining injuries.

DP Gachagua announced that President William Ruto’s government would ensure a decent send-off for the departed.

Additionally, DP Gachagua updated the school that the injured students were out of danger and would be released from the hospital soon.

“We appeal to all our drivers and road users to exercise care and vigilance on our roads,” he stated.

At the time of the accident, the bus was heading to Marigat from Kabarnet and according to Police Commissioner Stephen Kutwa, the bus was ferrying 61 students.

The students accompanied by their teachers were heading for a geographical trip.

President Ruto joined the national school in 1985 for his A-levels after attending Wareng High School.
