2 Dead, Several Injured After Kapsabet High School Bus Gets Involved In Accident

Update, Saturday, March 16: A teacher and a student have been confirmed dead in the accident involving the Kapsabet Boys High School Bus which was heading the Marigat from Kabarnet.

Police Commissioner Stephen Kutwa confirmed the incident noting the bus had 61 students inside when the tragedy occurred.

“They were heading on a geographical trip, and unfortunately, they had an accident. We have students who have slight injuries but they have been taken to the hospital for treatment,” noted Kutwa. 


Two people on Saturday, March 16, are feared dead after a school bus belonging to Kapsabet Boys High School was involved in an accident in the Patkawanin area on the Marigat-Kabarnet road.

While confirming the incident, the Kenya Red Cross Society revealed that a rescue team had been sent to the scene to help in the evacuation process.

"A road traffic incident involving a school bus has been reported at Patkawanin along Marigat-Kabarnet Road in Baringo County. Our response team, alongside the County Ambulance crew, is currently at the scene," read part of a statement by the Red Cross.

The bus which was heading to Marigat reportedly veered off the road before rolling several times.

In the widely shared photos, the bus, now upside-down in the middle of a thicket, appeared completely deformed.

A team of medical officers from Baringo Referral Hospital and three ambulances were dispatched to assist in handling the situation.

The injured were transferred to Baringo County Referral Hospital for treatment and first aid.

The exact number of casualties is yet to be confirmed as investigations commence to establish the main cause of the accident.

Meanwhile, motorists were advised to drive carefully as they approached that section of the road.

In a similar incident on February 24, three pupils died after a bus belonging to Maadili Primary School overturned in Mathioya, Murang'a.

According to a police report, two students allegedly succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at the Murang'a Level 5 hospital.

While narrating the incident, witnesses claimed the accident occurred when the school bus lost control and veered off the road before overturning in a nearby thicket.
